Bio: Derek Fisher has nearly 30 years of experience in engineering and cybersecurity, Derek Fisher has built a career on one core belief: the best security happens when it’s woven into everything from the start. As Director of Temple University’s Cyber Defense and Information Assurance Program, he is shaping the next generation of cybersecurity leaders through hands-on curriculum and teaching secure software development, equipping developers to build resilience into products from day one. His career spans roles in product security at JPMorgan Chase and leading the global product security program at Envestnet, where he transformed how enterprises integrate security into the product lifecycle, from vulnerability management to cloud transformation.
Beyond the enterprise, Derek is deeply committed to community and education. He is the author of the Alicia Connected book series for young readers and The Application Security Program Handbook, making security approachable at every stage of life and career. He actively shares insights through his SubStack, YouTube channel, and frequent conference talks, with a philosophy rooted in enabling innovation, not blocking it. Having worked across finance, healthcare, defense, and commercial industries, Derek brings a practical, business-aligned approach to security: helping organizations reduce risk, accelerate growth, and empower people to succeed in an increasingly connected world.
